Abstract

ABSTRACT

The increasing prevalence of thalassemia in Indonesia needs to be alerted. The main principle of preventing the emergence of new thalassemia sufferers is to prevent the birth of thalassemic babies. Effective programs to reduce the prevalence are public education, career screening, counseling, and information about the diagnosis. This community service activity aims to increase student understanding regarding thalassemia disease so that it can support government programs in reducing the incidence of thalassemia births. This community service was attended by 82 students of STIKes Muhammadiyah Ciamis, West Java. This community service was conducted online. There are several stages carried out in this activity, namely the creation of a thalassemia digital book, dissemination of activity information, pre-test work, material presentation sessions, and evaluation sessions. The results of this community service activity raised the average and median scores for the post-test, namely 66.97 and 80. This shows that after these activities there was an increase in students' understanding of thalassemia disease. Interventions in the form of education with ebook media can increase understanding of thalassemia disease.
