Abstrak: 12,78% dari total penduduk usia produktif atau 2,4 juta penduduk di Jawa Tengah mengalami buta huruf, khususnya di Kabupaten Brebes, Tegal, Pati, Cilacap dan Pemalang. Taman Baca Saroja hadir sebagai bentuk inisiatif yang ingin memberikan kontribusi dan inovasi sosial yang bergerak di bidang literasi, Tujuan pelaksanaan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat kali ini adalah mengenalkan Bahasa Inggris sekaligus berupaya untuk meningkatkan jumlah kosa kata baru, kemampuan mengenal metode menggambar sketsa, serta kemampuan mengambil gambar menggunakan android dengan melibatkan 75 peserta anggota Taman Baca Saroja. Kegiatan dilakukan secara serentak di 3 (tiga) ruang kelas berbeda dalam bentuk pelatihan Bahasa Inggris, menggambar, dan fotografi. Selain diberikan sesi pelatihan bagi peserta, evaluasi pun dilakukan melalui pemberian angket kepada pengelola, pihak sekolah dan beberapa perwakilan peserta lainnya. Hasilnya, jumlah kosa kata meningkat 60% disertai ejaan yang sesuai, disertai pemahaman berbagai rambu peringatan, kemampuan menggambar sketsa meningkat 40% dan menghasilkan foto estetik dengan peningkatan rata-rata sebesar 60%.
Abstract: 12.78% of the total productive age population or 2.4 million people in Central Java are illiterate, especially in Brebes, Tegal, Pati, Cilacap and Pemalang districts. Taman Baca Saroja is present as a form of initiative that wants to contribute and social innovation in the field of literacy. The purpose of the implementation of this Community Service is to introduce English while trying to increase the number of new vocabulary, the ability to recognize sketch drawing methods, and the ability to take pictures using android by involving 75 participants of Taman Baca Saroja members. Activities were carried out simultaneously in 3 (three) different classrooms in the form of English, drawing, and photography training. In addition to providing training sessions for participants, an evaluation was carried out by giving questionnaires to managers, school officials and several other participant representatives. As a result, the number of vocabulary increased by 60% accompanied by appropriate spelling, accompanied by understanding of various warning signs, the ability to draw sketches increased by 40% and produce aesthetic photos with an average increase of 60%.
