Batik SaSaMbo tidak hanya menjadi ciri khas dari Bima, tetapi juga merupakan ciri khas Lombok, Sumbawa. Batik SaSaMbo yang ada di Bima memiliki motif yang berbeda dari motif batik yang dimiliki oleh Lombok dan Sumbawa terutama ragam hiasnya yang lebih banyak variasinya. Motif batik di Bima lebih cenderung menggunakan motif-motif yang berkaitan erat dengan budaya setempat. Motif batik pada zaman dahulu di Bima hanya menggunakan motif bawang, kupu-kupu, kepiting, dancabe, tetap seiring dengan perkembangan zaman corak dan ragam hiasnyamakin beragam, seperti motif umalengge (rumah adat), motif renda (nama kampung), kabateto’i(sarambi kecil), madasahe, (matakerbau), kakando (tunas bambu), dan lain-lain, tetapi yang paling terkenal adalah motif umalengge (rumahadat) Bima. Ragam hias kangkung, daun priya atau buahnya,ragam hias putri mandalika, ragam hias rumah adat Sumbawa atau jajan khas manjareal, taman sangkareang, gendang beleq dan lain-lain. Berdasarkan latar belakang di atas, adapun rumusan masalahnya adalah â€Bagaimanakah estetika ragam hias batik SaSaMbo di sentral kerajinan SMK 5 Mataram?â€. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan konstribusi terhadap pengembangan model batik SaSaMbo dengan berbagai macam ragam hias yang sesuai denganciri khas daerah NTB, dapat memberikan konstribusi terhadap pengetahuan tentangkeindahan ragam hias batik SaSaMbo yang bermanfaat bagi masyarakat NTB, serta dapat memberikan masukan terhadap pengrajin yang ada di SMK 5 Mataram mengenai keterampilan atau kerajinan batik SaSaMbo yang menjadi ciri khas masyarakat NTB (Sasak, Sumbawa, Mbojo). Pendekatan penelitian yang di gunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif. Jenis penelitian dengan menggunakan penelitian etnografi. Instrument penelitian dilakukan dengan observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumen.
