ANALISIS KEBUTUHAN PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA PADA PEMBELAJARAN PHONETICS

Abstrak: Phonetics (fonetik) merupakan mata kuliah yang sulit dikuasai oleh mahasiswa. Perbedaan bunyi dalam bahasa Inggris dengan bahasa Indonesia menjadi tantangan yang harus dihadapi oleh mahasiswa. Banyaknya bunyi yang harus diingat oleh mahasiswa juga menjadi penghambat keberhasilan pembelajaran fonetik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan mahasiswa pada pembelajaran fonetik yang akan digunakan dalam pengembangan media ajar fonetik. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa program studi bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Alat pengumpul data yaitu menggunakan kuesioner. Data diklasifikasikan untuk mendeskripsikan kebutuhan mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran fonetik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengajaran fonetik di kelas selama ini kurang maksimal dalam penggunaan media ajar. Mahasiswa sulit untuk mengingat dan memahami place and manner of articulation serta fonem. Mahasiswa membutuhkan media pembelajaran untuk membantu dalam belajar fonetik. Hasil penelitian ini selanjutnya akan digunakan untuk acuan pada penelitian pengembangan media ajar fonetik untuk mahasiswa bahasa Inggris.
Abstract: Phonetics is a difficult subject for students to be mastered. The difference of sounds between English and Indonesia is one of the difficulties faced by students. The number of sounds that students must remember also becomes an obstacle for learning phonetics. This research aimed to describe the students’ needs in learning, then the data will be used to develop the teaching media in Phonetics. The subject of this research was the students of English program. The method used was descriptive qualitative. The data was collected using questionnaire then it were classified in order to describe the needs of students in learning phonetics. The result showed that the media used in teaching learning teaching phonetics did not fulfil the students’ need. The students were difficult to remember and understand the place and manner of articulations and phonemes. The students need the specific teaching media in learning phonetics. The result of this study will be used as reference in depeloving phonetics teaching media for English students.
