Sebagai bentuk manifestasi dari peraturan larangan merokok oleh pemerintah maka diberlakukan Kawasan Tanpa Asap Rokok (KTR) di berbagai tempat umum, tidak luput juga kampus UM Mataram NTB. Melalui penelitian ini maka diharapkan adanya informasi mengenai sikap mahasiswa terhadap peraturan bebas asap rokok di FKIP UM Mataram serta pemahaman mereka terhadap bahaya asap rokok bagi kesehatan lingkungan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kombinasi kualitatif dan kuantitatif (mixing method)dengan sampel mahasiswa FKIP Prodi Pendidikan Geografi. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh bahwa mahasiswa prodi Pendidikan Geografi yang telah menempuh mata kuliahPendidikan Kependudukan dan Lingkungan Hidup telah memahami dengan baik bahaya asap rokok bagi kualitas lingkungan udara di area kampus FKIP UM Mataram. Sikap responden terhadap peraturan larangan merokok di area kampus diperoleh sebanyak 50% mahasiswa bersikap sangat positif atau sangat setuju terhadap aturan larangan merokok di area kampus dan sebanyak 26.5% bersikap positif atau setuju, bersikap negative atau tidak setuju sebanyak 15.5%, dan 8% bersikap sangat negatif atau sangat tidak setuju terhadap aturan larangan merokok di area kampus FKIP UM Mataram.
